Airmen Racing To Rescue 12 On Ice Floe Fairbanks, Alaska, Jan. 14 (P) A race against time was begun Thursday in 58-belowzero weather to pluck 12 men from a doomed arctic scientific outpost before it disintegrates. Evanuation of station Char. ley, a crumbling ice floe about 440 miles northwest of Barrow, Alaska, was ordered stepped up after an inspection flight by Brig. Gen Gordon H.
Austin, commander of the 11th Air Division. The general said on his return early Thursday the floe was surrounded by great patches of open water and ready to break up at any time. The men, the last of more than 30 in the original scientific party and others flown in to assist in the evaculation, were reported in good spirits and unafraid. The general said the 12 would be flown out by Friday noon. and ask for an Ad Taker If you are a permanent resident of the city (either listed in the city directory or telephone direc tory), you need only say CHARGE IT An "accommodation" bill will be sent you after the a advertisement expires.
