How to keep fresh your vegan mayonnaise
Follow these tips:
- Store it in an airtight container: Transfer the vegan mayo to a clean, airtight jar or container before storing it in the refrigerator. This helps prevent exposure to air and bacteria, which can cause it to spoil faster.
- Refrigerate promptly: After making the mayonnaise, place it in the refrigerator as soon as possible. The cold temperature slows down bacterial growth and helps maintain freshness.
- Use clean utensils: When serving the mayo, make sure to use clean utensils to avoid introducing contaminants that could cause spoilage.
- Check for signs of spoilage: Keep an eye out for any changes in color, texture, or smell, which may indicate that the mayonnaise has gone bad. If you notice any unusual signs, discard it to avoid the risk of foodborne illness.
- Consume within recommended time: Vegan mayonnaise typically stays fresh for about 1 week when stored properly in the refrigerator. Be sure to use it within this timeframe for the best quality.
By following these guidelines, you can help ensure that your vegan mayo stays fresh and safe to eat for as long as possible.
Ideas of recipes with vegan mayo
Vegan mayo can be used in many ways, just like traditional mayonnaise. Here are some ideas my kid absolutely love :
- Sandwiches and Wraps: Spread vegan mayo on bread or tortillas as a base for sandwiches and wraps. It adds creaminess and flavor to your favorite fillings like veggies, tofu, tempeh, or plant-based deli slices.
- Salads: Use vegan mayo to make creamy salad dressings for potato salad, coleslaw, pasta salad, or mixed greens. You can also mix it with cooked grains like quinoa or bulgur for a hearty salad.
- Dips and Sauces: Whip up creamy dips and sauces by mixing vegan mayo with herbs, spices, and other flavorings. It’s great for dipping veggies, chips, or crackers, or as a sauce for roasted vegetables, fries, or vegan burgers. And even for my homemade fish sticks (also kid approved !)
- Tofu Egg Salad: Replace traditional mayo with vegan mayo in classic recipes like tofu egg salad. Mix crumbled tofu with vegan mayo, mustard, turmeric (for color), diced veggies, and seasonings for a delicious sandwich filling or topping for crackers.
- Sushi Rolls: Use vegan mayo as a creamy component in sushi rolls. Spread a thin layer on nori sheets before adding rice, veggies, and other fillings, or mix it with cooked sushi rice for added flavor and creaminess.
- Baking: it can also be used in baking to add moisture and richness to recipes like cakes, muffins, and quick breads. It can replace eggs and oil in some recipes, resulting in a tender and moist texture.
Feel free to experiment with your favorite recipes and get creative with how you use it!
