I'm sitting here working on my second cup of coffee and day dreaming about a trip to the OBX. What kind of fun activities are there for a 30-something guy? I was thinking about something more adventerous than shopping or laying on the beach, but any ideas are appreciated.

Well I tell ya what, I think THIS thread is going to fill up quick, with enough to keep you busy when you get here. The quick version? all depends what you want to spend your time and money on. and where on the Outer banks you want to settle in for your vacation. Nightlife is different in the Kill devil hills, Nags head area, than farther down the islands for one thing, but as for adventure..fishing, surfing, hang gliding, para sailing. ok "youse guys" lets hear em

have you gone up to see the horses, i know you can't do the atv tours, but you can do the suburban tours (although i'm not sure if they run in the winter). there's always the aquarium...kind of boring. exploring the beaches and sound areas is always fun, hang gliding is awesome, don't know if they do that in the winter months either. btw, how's the job hunting going steve, and i have to say your picture doesn't look like you're "30-something". when are you going down?

Hi Steve--how about hang gliding (Kitty Hawk Kites) in Kill Devil Hills??.. we like kayaking and there's lots of places to try that.. might want to try windsurfing or kitesurfing... if you've never tried surf fishing you might give that a spin (it's a lot of fun--I know people who hate fishing who love surf fishing)... if you want an "adventure trip" take a couple ferries and go see Cape Lookout... (last time we went we took the ferry to Okraco*ke, then the Cedar Island Ferry, and then we had to get a boat to take us over to Lookout)... oh and 4x4ing on the beach is fun (we take our 4x4 vehicle out to Cape Point or the inlet at the tip of Hatteras Island)--if you don't have a 4x4 maybe there's a place you can rent one. That's all I can think of for now but if I think of anything else I'll let you know.
how's the job front going? (I just found out my place of work is cutting a lot of people (they already cut a few) and that's a little nervewracking because I don't know what's going to happen yet and I'm a bit worried.. guess that's the sign o' the times! :(

Hi again--do you ever fly stunt kites down there? we have a couple stunt kites (that we got from Kitty Hawk Kites--they have some inexpensive one's) and it is sooo much fun! (waaaay better than the kites that you put up and just let 'em sit in one place)... sometimes we take them over near the Wright Brothers Memorial and fly them there (there's somethin' cool about that.. ;) but any of the beaches there's lots of room for it.

Hey Steve,
Surf Fishing, para sailing, charter fishing, dolphin watching, and more fishing.
OBX vacation is the best place to chil, relax, it's a hang out get away from it all type of vacation.

Relax on the beach during the day and dance the night away at Port O Call or Kelley's. They both have great bars and live bands. A lot of 30ish people hang there.

Go over to the Dare County airport in Manteo and take a plane airtour in a Cessna 172 or a Waco Biplane. You can take upto 3 more people in the 172 or a total of 3 in the Waco (pick this for a fun ride on a warm day).

take your kayak over to the ocean and ride waves. FUN!ever heard of kitesurfing? take a lesson
go explore the backside of jockeys ridge with a camera in hand.

You should definitely check out kiteboarding. If you haven't seen this it is one of the fastest growing new sports in the world right now. We use a water relaunchable kite to pull us on specially designed kiteboards. It is incredible!

We like to go 4-wheeling at Oregon Inlet, & bring along the fishing equipment. The water is warm but can be swift, the tidal pools are fun for kids. It's neat to watch all the boats going in & out.

There's a few suggestions I never considered. Thanks to everyone for helping a guy out. This has got to be the best OBX site there is... The only problem is time. I'll have to be down there a month to do everything. That sounds like a plan.
